The story begins with sophomore Dylan Reilly watching the live coverage of 9/11 from his high school's library, surrounded by his friends. All were shocked and angry! Whereas his good friend Joe Doyle vowed to join the U.S. Marines and "get those terrorists" responsible for the attacks, Dylan didn't have the courage to join him. However, 10 years later after Dylan and his wife escape three deadly attacks, he decides the time has come for him to start defending himself and fight back.  Then, like a cowboy out of  the old west, he  confronts armed and dangerous killers, hoping to save thousands of innocent lives. He comes face to face with vicious terrorists, thieves, gangsters, dangerous men with deadly weapons who will kill innocent people without a second thought. Each time, Dylan Reilly knows that if he’s not lightning fast and deadly accurate, innocent people will die.  So Dylan Reilly, the everyman, somehow finds the courage to heroically fight back in this fast-paced, action-packed, 5-star thriller that critics and readers love!

A Dangerous Freedom is the first novel in the Dylan Reilly novel series, which is being compared to novels by Michael Connelly and David Baldacci.

A Dangerous Freedom book cover

“A Dangerous Freedom by John Ruane is an impressive fictional story. It tells us a story of how the fateful 9/11 incident affected everyone; even people who were just watching the scene on the television. A creatively written book that appears to be more like a superhero-kind-of-movie—minus the superpowers. Invigorating from start to finish. Book had me smiling!”

"I loved this book! It's like the stories from Vince Flynn, Tom Clancy or Brad Thor. It puts you in that moment where you are confronted by a choice, knowing that whatever you choose, it's going to change your life forever. And even with all of the risk, you still have to make a quick decision."

-- Dan Proft, AM560, The Answer

“A thought-provoking blend of cowboy-style heroism, terrorism inspection, and social commentary that will leave thriller readers thinking long after the final volley is fired. John Ruane does a particularly fine job of capturing the psychological milieu of modern-day America post-911.”

-- Diane Donovan, Midwest Book Review

“An ambitious and timely take on the gun violence in America and the profoundly disastrous effects on those inflicted by the carnage!”

-- Kashif Hussain, Best Thriller Books

“If you are looking for an action-packed thriller, this book will be right up your street!

Ruane’s ‘A Dangerous Freedom’ is a very fast-paced, action-packed story in the aftermath of September 11th and is an interesting insight into the impact of this act of terrorism on the American psyche. Ruane has created a story which is a mixture of both fact and fiction, focusing on and emphasizing the importance of patriotism, loyalty and friendship. I was left reeling from the amount of action in this book.
